Few places have commanded painters' attention over the years as much as Venice, that loveliest and most mysterious of cities. Although we perhaps most often romanticize about lovers being rowed through narrow canals in picturesque gondolas, a more typical scene is that of a slowmoving, much more modern power boat transporting supplies under the walking bridges and ancient walls. Indeed, in a city without streets to drive cars or trucks on, how else to get those wonderful mouthwatering ingredients to the countless restaurants and trattorias?
